Announcing the Fastec HSi Series
Press Release 26/09/24: “The new integrated designs combine the camera and a full PC controller, allowing the user to collect, store and process videos from a single unit. The integrated design of these cameras offers users enhanced flexibility and ease of use. The HS5i and HS7i cameras’ high-speed workflow optimizes productivity and decreases data download time. Through its unique file transport system, the HSi Series allows up to 40 Gbps throughput, even when saving to external drives. An optional portability kit converts to an on-the-go unit that is ideal for field work via a tablet that allows for wireless or tethered control.
The kit also includes removable handles and an articulating tablet mount for viewing and controlling the camera. An attachable V-mount battery provides portability while the universal mounting offers flexibility in battery options. The portability kit is also available for the IRIS MX, allowing for rapid data collection by saving video directly to the camera for post-analysis without the need for a connected computer. The HS5i model, with a 12-bit CMOS sensor on a new high-performance platform, captures images at 2560 x 2048 resolution and 253 frames per second (fps) and up to 29,000 fps at reduced resolutions. The HS7i offers full high definition at 1920 x 1080 resolution and 2500 fps and 35,000 fps at reduced resolutions for breathtaking slow-motion playback.” – RDI Technologies Inc.

Motion Amplification® Case Studies
Case 1 – Visualising High-Speed Fan Issues
Working with a client recently, they had a history of reliability problems on a high-speed fan (6000 RPM / 100Hz). Levels were 5-7 mm/sec RMS on the motor. They suspected the base was an issue but wanted to use Motion Amplification to visualize how the motor and structure were actually moving. We used the IRIS MX to give a large field of view with an fmax of 205 Hz shot at 410 fps. The MA footage has now given them the confidence to correctly reinstall the fan due to the poor base mounting.
Great corrective work from one of our clients using Motion Amplification. A nice before and after example of a pipework vibration problem. We used the IRIS MX camera to visualize the vibration at the pump pulsation frequency of 246Hz with an Fmax at just over 500Hz. After reviewing the MA videos, extra pipework supports were fitted to reduce the vibration levels. Follow-up shots showed a significant reduction in vibration levels. The MX is a great addition to the current IRIS M system, providing a large image size while retaining high frame rates to capture the motion.”
Case 2 – Effective Pipework Vibration Correction
Case 3 – Resolving High-Frequency Vibration
The Iris MX is great for those higher frequency problems where we want to retain a large image for analysis. In this case, the problem frequency was 247Hz, the pulsation frequency of the pump. Historic significant reliability problems with these pumps were related to high vibrations. Look at the pump casing flexing! Some nice pipework supports and after MA shots speak for themselves, showing a significant reduction in vibration levels.
