Vibration Analysis Courses, CAT-I to CAT-IV

Condition Monitoring

If you have been performing vibration analysis for less than one year, or if you have been collecting vibration readings and leaving the analysis to another person, then the CAT-I course is for you. The Vibration Analysis CAT-I is also designed for reliability engineers, PdM program managers, and other maintenance staff who would like to understand condition monitoring with a focus on vibration analysis, and take the ISO or ASNT exam.

If you have more than twelve months experience, and feel that you have a good understanding of the fundamentals, then you are ready to step up to the CAT-II course. Anyone who wants to be confident and capable of diagnosing a wide range of fault conditions, correct certain conditions, and taking accurate measurements needs to take this course. Certification follows the ISO 18436-2 standard and the ASNT Recommended Practice SNT-TC-1A. Learn more about CAT-III and CAT-IV below.

CAT I Ultrasound Analysis RMS Training 2

Ultrasound Analysis Courses, CAT-I (CAT-II)

Condition Monitoring

The Ultrasound courses are intended for the ultrasound analyst and technician analyst who will collect ultrasound data to detect fault conditions in rotating machinery, electrical equipment, and a host of other equipment including valves, hydraulics, steam traps, and more. Students learn how to detect leaks in compressed air and steam systems and grease lubricate bearings with precision.

The CAT I Ultrasound Analysis (UCAT-I) course is also suitable for reliability engineers, PdM program managers, and other maintenance staff who would like to understand condition monitoring with a focus on ultrasound, and take the ISO or ASNT exam. Are you ready to get started in ultrasound analysis and condition monitoring?

ARP Advocate, Engineer, Leader

Asset Reliability

The Asset Reliability Practitioner (ARP) utilizes an international scheme, with independent, aligned training available publicly, onsite and online. The certification scheme will recognize the knowledge and basic experience of people at three levels; the Advocate, who contributes to the initiative, the Reliability Engineer who operates the initiative, and the Leader who manages the initiative.

Whether your organization manufactures products (appliances, automobiles, etc.) or a commodity (mining, oil & gas, etc.); provides an essential service (e.g. water, sewage, power); relies on machinery/electrical equipment (facilities, shipping), or is involved with protecting their country, these courses will provide a memorable explanation of how to improve reliability and performance.

Course Feedback

Excellent instructor

I had a really good week, I enjoyed the course and feel I have learnt a lot! I feel you presented the course really well, things came across and I took a understanding to how you was teaching it!

Specialist Maintenance Technician
Tata Steel, UK

Clearly explained

It was an excellent, very professional yet very enjoyable course. As a relative novice to vibration analysis I feel much more confident after the course and the amount of knowledge I gained in the week was incredible.

Maintenance Technician
Dupont, Ireland

Highly recommended

Thanks for a really good and interesting training course! I feel much more confident implementing changes now, and for once we had a trainer that actually was interested in the subject! Bravo!

FAQ: Training and Certification

Yes, it is possible to skip the VA CAT-I course and certification, but it is important to note that some background knowledge in vibration analysis is required. Additionally, you must have 18 months of field experience to obtain the ISO certificate for VA CAT-II.

Upon registering for the course, students receive an instructional email that includes a link to the Training Management System (TMS) and their personal Learning Zone account. The account provides a digital coursebook and actual course videos recorded in a studio. The Learning Zone account can be used for pre-course study materials, review during the course, and reference after the course. Students can also retake the course and certification exam using the Learning Zone account, which is active at registration and expires four months after the course’s completion date.

Vibration analysis certification is valid for five (5) years.

To be eligible for VCAT-I, you must have at least six months of experience in maintenance, reliability, and vibration data collection. You will also be required to nominate an independent person who can verify that you possess this experience.

After your exam has been received at our Australian office, you will be notified of your results within 5-10 days. If you meet all the certification requirements and have passed the exam, you will receive your Digital Certificate 10-15 days after receiving the notification email about your exam results.

You will find our Terms and Conditions in the Training Brochure on page 27.

After registering for the course, all students will receive an instructional email that includes a link to the Training Management System (TMS) to finalize their course registration and student profile. Once the registration is complete, students will find a link to the relevant online Learning Zone under the training course tab in their student profile. Note that Category IV training does not include the online Learning Zone. The Learning Zone provides a digital version of the coursebook and actual course videos recorded in a studio. These videos contain similar content taught in the Instructor-led course.

Our courses are open to the public irrespective of their experience level. Whether you’re involved in sales, marketing, engineering, design, reliability, or vibration analysis in any capacity, you’ll come away with a better understanding of how machines are monitored, how faults develop, and what steps to take to determine which faults exist in a machine. All attendees receive certificates of completion. Candidates without sufficient experience will receive a certificate even if they pass the exam, but the certificate will mention that their experience was insufficient for ISO certification at that time.

To meet the ISO 18436-8 requirements, candidates must undergo hearing examinations to ensure they have natural or corrected hearing acuity in at least one ear. Results of the exam, in which the individual should be able to hear a standard pure tone at an average of 25 dB hearing level or lower, should be retained and provided to MIBoC upon request. The exam should be conducted by a licensed professional upon initial certification and re-certification, and records of the test should be available upon request. Candidates who do not provide records of passing the hearing test will receive conditional certification. This condition will note that it’s the employer’s responsibility to evaluate the candidate’s hearing acuity and suitability for ultrasound data collection and/or analysis. The candidate’s certificate and MIBoC’s website list of certified analysts will indicate this condition of certification.

To ensure you are notified before your certification expires, it’s crucial that you maintain up-to-date records on the TMS (Training Management System), which you will use to register for courses and certification. In the event that you change roles, it is important to update your records accordingly. Additionally, we recommend setting a reminder in your calendar for five years from now to contact us.

The Mobius Institute Board of Certification (MIBoC) Scheme Committee and Technical Committee, along with some industry professionals, believed that there should be multiple levels of certification to recognize the complex task of improving reliability, maintenance, operational performance, and asset health monitoring. As a result, they created a three-level system. ARP-A: for those who need a comprehensive understanding of reliability and performance improvement without delving into specific details. ARP-E: for reliability engineers focused on the technical aspects of reliability, maintenance, and asset health monitoring, with requirements beyond other certification programs. ARP L: for reliability program leaders who must understand the business case, culture change requirements, strategy, and leadership skills necessary for success, with requirements beyond other certification programs such as CMRP.
